HEALTHCARE REFERRALs
HOW TO REFER PATIENTS
SCDS accepts referrals for the treatment of skin cancers, sun damage and pre-cancerous spots for the individual doctors that we service. Referrals must be addressed to the individual doctor and not the hospital. We generally don't accept indefinite referrals.
GENERAL REFERRALS
To refer a patient, the referral can be faxed, posted or given to the patient to bring on the day of their appointment. If you require us to contact the patient to make or confirm an appointment, please fax the referral on (03) 9830 8759
URGENT REFERRALS
For urgent referrals it is best for your GP to contact our reception directly via telephone on (03) 9888 3590 and fax a referral stating it is URGENT to (03) 9830 8759
ADVANTAGES OF REFERRING TO SCDS
The dermatologists that Skin Cancer Day Surgery provides services to, have sub-specialized in Mohs Micrographic Surgery. In Australia, Mohs surgery is performed only by dermatologists (and rarely other specialists) that have undertaken further post graduate training in the technique. Mohs surgery is the most precise way to remove skin cancer and has the highest cure rate of any skin cancer treatment. It is also the only surgical skin cancer treatment that ensures the skin cancer is completely removed with the smallest possible wound to achieve complete tumour clearance. This is particularly advantageous where tumours occur on sites where tissue conservation is important for functional and cosmetic reasons (e.g. face, ears, nose, lips, eyelids, hands and feet, digits, etc.).
