Complaints Process

Consumer healthcare rights refer to the entitlements and protections that individuals have within the healthcare system. These rights are designed to ensure that consumers receive safe, effective, and respectful care. Please see the attached brochure from the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare about your rights as a patient in Victoria Patient Rights and Charter. Copies are also available in other languages from the website. 

 

We recognise the customer’s right to make a complaint and welcome the opportunity to improve service standards by actively identifying areas of concern in current performance. Please contact the Director of Nursing to lodge a complaint.

If a complaint cannot be resolved, you have the right to contact The Office of the Health Complaints Commissioner on 1300 582 113 or via an online form at www.hcc.vic.gov.au/contact and click on the link ‘Make and Online Complaint’ and follow the instructions.

Open Disclosure

Skin Cancer Day Surgery also follows the principles of Open Disclosure. Open Disclosure is the process of open communication with the patient and/or their family or support person following an adverse or unexpected event that may or may not result in harm to the patient. Skin Cancer Day Surgery's policy in relation to open disclosure is any event:

  • That health care provision does not go to plan, to ensure a patient's deterioration is recognised promptly, and appropriate action is taken to escalate care

  • Involving a data breach that has the potential to cause harm
